Susan is a Contemporary Figurative Artist who uses classical, realist techniques to create her paintings and drawings. A mystical influence pervades her treatment of figures, objects, and animals sparked by her love of world mythology. Susan says she was deeply inspired by the Fairytales and Myths of her childhood. She was entranced, not just by the stories, but also by how the art connected her to them. As an adult, she calls upon this influence to tell stories with her own art. The greater body of her work delves into the universal female psyche, which she describes as a crucible for dreams, mysteries, journeys, and magical personas. Although she pays great attention to the outer beauty, she is just as devoted to expressing what she senses below the surface. She is searching for that inner journey which is part of the feminine universal story. Her somewhat magical interpretations create work which is both peaceful and emotionally compelling, inviting one to contemplate a personal response to the image’s story.

When looking at the world, I see the interplay of magic and reality.
My art gives form to this convergence through the use of classical techniques in pencil, pastel, and paint. Realistic figures and objects are infused with subtly mystical nuances that hint at interior dramas and mysteries. Each piece invites the viewer to engage in a contemplation of the image’s deeper meaning.
The human figure’s ability to express grace, movement and emotion has always fascinated me. Although I portray the exterior form in a classical style, my true intent is to explore the interior world of my subjects. They are crucibles for dreams, mysteries, journeys, and magical personas. The use of color, metaphor, and symbolic content all heighten the inherent story. I have always believed that the more private the emotional inner journey, the more universal the message.
